Review and Gap Analysis of the Existing Coal Abatement Scenarios

Vietnam is experiencing a rapidly growing demand for power and realiance on coal. This poses financial and environmental risks, despite ongoing progress in integrating renewable energy. Within this context, in order to better inform national decarbonisation efforts and the country’s COP26 commitments, ETP led a study (supported by the RRF), which provides a scenario-based analysis to reduce emissions in Vietnam’s power sector. This aligns with Vietnma’s 8th Power Development Plan and 2050 net-zero target while addressing challenges related to investments, policy-deveopment and grid integration.
