This Ministerial is an opportunity to reflect and build on progress made since Glasgow in the context of the global energy crisis. Importantly, this event demonstrates how an accelerated and ambitious shift to clean energy, including solar and wind, and coupled with greater energy efficiency, is the most effective, reliable and affordable route to ensuring both climate and energy security, and long-term prosperity. It provides a comprehensive vision of how energy ecosystems can evolve in line with a 1.5 degree pathway, including for regions with access-to-energy challenges.

The Energy Transition Council – a multilateral clean energy platform – has developed an innovative solution to meeting urgent demands for technical assistance for the energy transition: The Rapid Response Facility (RRF). The RRF brings together over 25 aligned programmes from international partners, to deploy support quickly to partner countries of the Council and aims to bridge the gap between technical assistance and access to longer term, larger scale finance. The panel session is an opportunity to showcase how swift and coordinated technical assistance can enable an accelerated energy transition while exploring what is required for more effective TA support going forward in this decade of action.

The Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) welcomes members and partners to celebrate five years of unprecedented progress in the global coal-to-clean transition. Since its founding by Canada and the United Kingdom at COP23 in Bonn, Germany, the PPCA has played a key role in moving the world closer toward “consigning coal to history.” From its initial 20 members, the Alliance now numbers over 170, across national and subnational governments and the private sector. PPCA members continue to be leaders in the energy transition, with many going beyond their initial phase-out pledges to accelerate their domestic transitions. Join us as we reflect together on our achievements over the last five years, and the global actions still needed to keep 1.5 alive. Members will present how they continue to raise ambition, as well as support prospective members of the Alliance through sharing expertise and best practices.
