First Technical Working Group Meeting for the Bangsamoro Sustainable Energy Master Plan

To initiate the development of the Bangsamoro Sustainable Energy Master Plan (BSEMP), the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE) convened the inaugural meeting of the multi-sectoral Technical Working Group (TWG) on November 18, 2024, in Davao City.

The BSEMP aims to guide the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) towards a sustainable, low-carbon energy future, guided by the Bangsamoro Organic Law and the Bangsamoro Development Plan in utilizing renewable energy sources and energy-efficient systems. The TWG meeting focused on identifying essential data requirements, agreeing on the methodology, and outlining capacity-building initiatives to empower stakeholders in the region’s energy sector development for both immediate and long-term implementation of the BSEMP. The meeting was informed by the BARMM Power Sector Development Roadmap, which the MENRE also developed with ETP’s support.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority, the Provincial Government of Maguindanao del Norte, the Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative, and the Department of Energy (National and Mindanao Offices). Additionally, representatives from the Provincial Governments of Lanao del Sur and Tawi-Tawi, as well as the City Government of Cotabato, participated virtually.

The Southeast Energy Transition Partnership United Nations Office for Project Services (ETP UNOPS) is supporting the development of the BSEMP, with technical expertise provided by the Centre for Energy, Environment Resources Development Foundation (CEERD) and CSi Energy Solutions International Inc (CSI).
