The impacts of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on Southeast Asia’s energy intensive industries foster the Government’s action to implement carbon pricing. At the Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) in Manila, the Vietnamese authorities – Mr. Nam Hung Pham from the Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Ms. Loan Nguyen from GreenCIC Consultant, discussed the specific implications on Vietnam’s cement, steel and other energy intensive industries. The meeting also involved the EU’s Minister Counsellor, Head of the Economic and Trade Section, Mr. Philipp Dupuis, and around 50 other stakeholders. The discussion led to further collaboration on how the Region can rapidly decarbonize these industries spurred by CBAM pilot implementation in October 2023 and full implementation in January 2026.
